Farm Animals

A complete service from health planning and TB testing to lameness work, foot trimming and routine procedures, plus 24 hour care for your farm animals.
Farm Animals

Our farm team works across dairy, beef, sheep and smallholder enterprises throughout Mid-Devon, blending long-standing farm knowledge with modern, data-led veterinary medicine. Whether you're running a commercial dairy herd or keeping a handful of sheep, our aim is the same: proactive, practical support that keeps your animals healthy and your business running smoothly.

Herd and flock health planning

Herd and flock health planning

Good herd health starts with a plan, not a reaction. We work with dairy and beef clients on fertility, using data analysis to identify trends and improve conception rates, and take the same approach to mastitis and lameness — tracking patterns across the herd so problems can be addressed at their source rather than treated one animal at a time. Our foot trimming service supports this work directly, helping to prevent and manage lameness before it becomes a welfare or productivity issue.

Prevention is almost always cheaper, and kinder, than cure — which is why so much of our farm work starts with data and planning, not just treatment.

Youngstock and routine procedures

Youngstock and routine procedures

The foundations of a healthy herd are laid early. Our youngstock guidance covers everything from colostrum management in the first hours of life through to nutrition and disease management as animals grow, helping to reduce losses and set young stock up for a productive future. Alongside this, we carry out routine procedures including dehorning, castrating and knock-down disbudding, all performed with animal welfare and appropriate pain relief front of mind.

TB testing and export

As a practice, we carry out statutory TB testing across the area, with a dedicated TB tester alongside a full team of vets qualified to test, so scheduling around your calendar is rarely a problem. We also support clients with export services, helping to navigate the health certification and testing requirements involved in moving animals across borders.

Training and round-the-clock support

We run farmer training courses covering areas such as medicine training and AI (artificial insemination) training, helping farm staff build confidence and competence in day-to-day animal health tasks. And when something can't wait, our emergency care is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — because farm emergencies don't work around a diary.

If you'd like to talk through health planning for your herd or flock, or need to book a routine visit, our farm team is here to help.
